NYT’s Butter chicken

All I really want out of life is to be able make Indian food at home that tastes like Indian food from a restaurant. I’ve tried a ton of recipes for chicken tikka masala, butter chicken, etc. but none compare to real deal. TLDR; this recipe was really good but would’ve failed a blind taste test against real takeout Indian food.

I will say it was fairly easy, which was appreciated. There were no mysterious ingredients that needed to be ordered online and no making curry paste in the food processor. So if it’s not going to taste like The Bombay Buffet then I’m happy to not go through the effort.

My opinion may be unpopular considering this recipe has over 3800 reviews and 5 stars but I can live with that. Maybe I have an Indian food gutter palette and this is actually authentic. Maybe I just needed to triple the salt content or heavy cream to get food coma feeling I desired. Maybe I needed a big piece of greasy naan to soak up that last bit of sauce. Who knows, but if you’re looking for a decent butter chicken to make at home, please ignore me, this one definitely works.
